Ovarian Germ Cell Tumours: Clinicopathological Features and Treatment Outcomes

Malignant germ cell ovarian tumors (MOGCTs) represent less than 20% of ovarian cancers. We conducted a retrospective study of 16 cases of (MOGCTs) diagnosed from January 2008 to December 2013. Results: During this time 26 cases of non epithelial ovarian malignancy were diagnosed which 16 are germinal tumors 61%. The age of patients ranged from 16 to 60 years. Abdominal mass was the principal sy...

Bmp7 regulates germ cell proliferation in mouse fetal gonads.

Relatively little is known regarding the signals that regulate the proliferation and sex-specific development of germ cells during mammalian fetal gonad differentiation. Members of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family have been identified as key regulators of germ cells in the Drosophila gonad. Here we show that in mice Bmp7 is expressed in gonads of both sexes and is required for germ c...

Germ Cell Nuclear Factor Regulates Gametogenesis in Developing Gonads

Expression of germ cell nuclear factor (GCNF; Nr6a1), an orphan member of the nuclear receptor gene family of transcription factors, during gastrulation and neurulation is critical for normal embryogenesis in mice. Gcnf represses the expression of the POU-domain transcription factor Oct4 (Pou5f1) during mouse post-implantation development. Although Gcnf expression is not critical for the embryo...

Management of ovarian germ cell tumours.

Malignant ovarian germ cell tumours are rare but they occur in women with a mean age of 19 years. It is important that these young patients are not subjected to radical surgery. In most of these patients, they can be cured with either surgery alone and careful surveillance with a combination of clinical examination, computer tomography scanning and serial serum tumour markers. Almost all of tho...

Pathogenesis of testicular germ cell tumours.

Human germ cell tumours comprise a heterogeneous group of neoplasms. In the testis, three entities are distinguished, the teratomas-yolk sac tumours of the infantile testis, the seminomas and nonseminomas of adolescents and adults, and the spermatocytic seminomas. Studies on epidemiology, histology, clinical behaviour, and chromosomal constitution of these tumours support the concept of distinc...
